What Is Coaching ?

Coaching is a partnership between the client and coach. This partnership leads to a collaboration of both parties to move the client forward to achieve the success that they desire. The client sets the agenda and defines their goals.

Professional coaches provide an ongoing partnership designed to help clients produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives. Coaches help people improve their performance and enhance the quality of their lives.

Coaches are trained to listen, to observe and to customize their approach to individual client needs. They seek to elicit solutions and strategies from the client; they believe the client is naturally creative and resourceful. The coach’s job is to provide support to enhance the skills, resources, and creativity that the client already has. The coach may also hold the client accountable for their actions based on the coaching relationship.

Coaching vs. Consulting

Consultants review and evaluate processes and procedures. They will offer solutions to the client based on the results and their knowledge of the field.  Since the client is the “expert” in the coaching partnership, the client with the help of the coach comes up with their own solutions and is motivated to move forward.

Coaching vs. Mentoring

Mentors typically will provide subjective advice on how to obtain your goals based on their experiences and relationships within their field of knowledge. Coaches are objective collaborators that focus on the self development of the client. This is accomplished by allowing the client to use their own creativity to determine the best solution for their obstacles.

Coaching vs. Therapy

Therapist focus on the clients past to explore current issues and behaviors, in order to help clients.  Coaches focus on the future and helping the client move forward by allowing the client a supportive environment to create solutions to resolve current problems.
