“The Hard Thing About Hard Things” by Ben Horowitz is a great book for someone interested in a leading a startup. Even though most of the stories he shares are from the technology sector in Silicon Valley, they will connect with anyone who has aspirations to launch the “next biggest thing’. The author does a great job of walking the reader through the story of the trials and tribulations that he experienced while founding and selling companies. His quick wit and tie in of hip hop lyrics to promote his own entrepreneurial bravado drive home his points while also engaging the reader’s sense of humor.
There are several great takeaways from this book that will provide significant value to any entrepreneur. The three that resonated the most were the following:
- Take care of the people, products and profits – in that order
- Don’t put it all on your shoulders
- Stop looking for the silver bullet
I look forward to hearing what your takeaways will be.
